Stop Slicing Your Driver and Find Your Perfect Swing!

Posted on January 31, 2016

In this video we discuss the secrets to hitting sizzling drives high and far. I have been teaching this game for over 15 years and the pain I hear from my students is how do I stop slicing my driver and gain more distance? Well folks, here are 3 way you are going to stop slicing your driver that will work for you immediately.

First, you are going to have to make sure you have a grip that is slice proof. Too often, I see golfers that grip the club way to high in the palm of the lead hand. Almost underneath the thumb pad. In your lead hand (the left hand for right handed golfers), you will need to get the grip in the base of  your palm near the fingers with the heel pad sitting on top of the grip.

Next, you should see the “V” of your lead hand pointing to your trail shoulder. The “V” is formed with your thumb and pointer finger of your lead hand. 2-3 knuckles of your lead hand will be visible. This will allow your left arm to swing and hinge properly adding leverage, power and club face control. Gripping the club properly in your lead hand will give you the opportunity to have a flat lead hand, wrist and a somewhat straight lead arm through and after impact.

Your trail hand should sit on the side of the club and in the fingers. By having the club in your fingers your trail hand “V” formed by your pointer finger and thumb will also point to your trail shoulder. As a PGA Golf Instructor, I see students who have a trail hand either way too far under the grip or much to on top of the grip. This ruins the club face control and contact.

In swing motion, you are going to make sure the toe of the club when it reaches hip height is tilted towards the ground. This will get the face square or even a little closed on the backswing. You should also feel a flat left wrist at the top of your swing. The Stronger grip, slightly closed face and last making sure your weight gets to the front foot. These 3 Top Secret ways to stop slicing is an excellent way for you to gain distance, consistency and lower your scores.
